During his visit to the Burgas Region, the Minister of Tourism, Miroslav Borshosh, visited one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Municipality of Sredets — the “Deultum–Debelt” Reserve in the village of Debelt.
“It is extremely important to me that we develop municipalities with strong potential such as Sredets, which are still not actively represented in the promotion of Bulgaria as a tourist destination. The concentration of tourists in just a few key municipalities creates an imbalance in the sector — both in Bulgaria and globally. Our goal is to draw tourists’ attention to places worth visiting, where they can truly learn and experience something meaningful. I also appreciate the commitment of the local authorities here to take part in the development and promotion of an integrated tourist route together with other municipalities in the region,” said Minister Borshosh during his meeting with Eng. Ivan Kichev, Mayor of Sredets Municipality, the Regional Governor, and other mayors from the Burgas Region.
The history and archaeological excavations of the ancient city, as well as the rich and recently renewed exhibition, were presented in an engaging narrative by Krasimira Kostova, Director of the Municipal Museum. She also briefed the Minister on upcoming projects and events planned within the reserve’s territory. For the first time this autumn, the municipality will host an international youth numismatic school, organized in partnership with Sofia University.
The Minister of Tourism and the Mayor of Sredets agreed to work together to implement the strategic vision of the Ministry of Tourism for promoting destinations where each municipality has its rightful place, as well as to provide mutual support in organizing events aimed at presenting and preserving the cultural heritage of Sredets Municipality.
