Ministry of Tourism affirms Bulgaria as a leading wine destination

The City of Plovdiv will host the ninth edition of the Global Wine Tourism Conference. The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), will promote Bulgaria's rich history, culture and tourism opportunities. In addition, it will present the country as a leading destination for culinary and wine tourism.

On this occasion, Minister Miroslav Borshosh and UN Tourism Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili visited the oldest city in Europe. The two held a working meeting with the Mayor of Plovdiv, Kostadin Dimitrov, at which the first steps in the preparation of the event were outlined.

"We have chosen Plovdiv to host the Ninth Global Conference of the World Tourism Organization. Bulgaria won the recognition of the UN specialized agency in competition with many countries and I am proud of this success. This is an exceptional opportunity to present our country as an attractive destination for wine tourism to the world's biggest media and authorities in this sector," Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh said.

The festivals "Young Wine Parade" and "Wine and Gourmet" are held in Plovdiv. Every year they attract hundreds of wine lovers. "Our city has proven its commitment to the development of wine tourism and we look forward to showcasing its charm on the global stage," Dimitrov emphasized.

Secretary General Pololikashvili personally toured some of the city's most iconic cultural and historical sites and expressed his admiration for its rich heritage and tourism potential.
