Increased fire safety checks begin at tourist sites across the country

22 January 2025

Due to the busy winter season, increased fire safety inspections of tourist sites across the country have started. This was agreed by the ministers of tourism Miroslav Borshosh and interior Daniel Mitov.

The inspections are preventive and the reason for the workshop was the tragic incident in a hotel in Turkey. Their aim is to assist businesses in ensuring the security and peace of mind of tourists, the two ministers said.

"The safety of tourists, people working in the tourism sector and in general of all Bulgarian and foreign guests in our resorts is of paramount importance. That is why we initiated an extraordinary meeting with Minister Mitov, where we discussed the possibilities to increase the number of extraordinary inspections”, Miroslav Borshosh stressed.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the General Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov and the Director of the Directorate "Control and Inspection Activities" at the Ministry of Tourism Ivan Videlov.

According to the Directorate General for Fire Safety and Protection of the Population, during the winter tourist season, the Directorate's teams carry out between 400 and 500 planned inspections each year. By the end of last year, the number of inspections was 181 and the number of issued prescriptions - 64, and the identified irregularities were corrected in a timely manner.

In addition to fire safety controls, the inspections will also cover compliance with other requirements related to the safety of tourist sites.
