Key legislative changes for the tourism sector approved ahead of summer season start
New amendments to the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act will facilitate access to highly qualified and seasonal staff in the sector
Today the Council of Ministers approved amendments to the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act , which will facilitate the access of highly skilled and seasonal workers to the labour market in the country. The new legal provisions will support the tourism industry by creating more flexible conditions for recruiting key personnel for the development of the sector.
Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh stressed that the priority of the Ministry is to support the business and to create a stable environment for the development of tourism in Bulgaria. "Easing the procedures for hiring seasonal and highly skilled staff is a key step towards increasing the competitiveness of the sector and ensuring quality services for tourists. We believe that these changes will give more certainty to both employers and workers," he added.
Among the main changes is the possibility to change employer more easily after the first 12 months for EU Blue Card holders, as well as simplified procedures for taking up a new position within this category. This will allow businesses in the tourism sector to more easily attract and retain qualified professionals. In addition, in the area of seasonal employment, the legislative amendments extend the possibilities for foreign workers to stay for up to 90 days beyond the initial authorised period. This will provide more flexibility to the tourism business, especially during peak periods when the need for additional staff is greatest.
The Ministry of Tourism continues to work actively in support of the industry, cooperating with all competent institutions to create a favorable and predictable environment for business. The current changes in the legislation are another step towards facilitating the recruitment procedures and improving the opportunities for the development of the tourism sector in Bulgaria.
