Minister Ilin Dimitrov: We are working for more flights and more German tourists in Bulgaria

The Ministry of Tourism is preparing a “Marshall Plan” for advertising and air connectivity in the German market after missed opportunities in October by the previous regular government.

"The German market is strategic for Bulgaria and we need to bring back tourists with more flights, stronger advertising and concrete actions," Minister of Tourism Dr. Ilin Dimitrov said during a meeting with German Ambassador Irene Planck and Sonya Miklay, director of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The Minister emphasized that talks have already begun to prepare a general plan to restore Bulgaria's positions on the German market. It will include air connectivity, partnerships with tour operators, charter programmes and new advertising formats to reach directly to different groups of German tourists.

"Through this "Marshall Plan" we want to support more flights and direct advertising to where people actually choose their trips," Minister Dimitrov said.

Ambassador Planck welcomes the idea of increased activity not only in the summer season, but also in terms of year-round tourism.

Possibilities for restoring tourism roadshows in Germany, more visits by German journalists and influencers to Bulgaria, and joint initiatives with the German tourism business were also discussed. Hosting Eurovision will also be used to better present Bulgaria to the Germans. During the competition, our country is expected to welcome over 1,000 journalists, and the Ministry of Tourism is planning a series of events and visits through which to showcase Sofia and various tourist spots in the country.

Ambassador Irene Plank said that Bulgaria is a safe and interesting destination with great cultural wealth. The quality of tourist services, the categorization of accommodation facilities, and the training of personnel for the sector were also discussed.
