Historical museum, Karlovo

The Historical museum, Karlovo is located in the old part of the town near the Vassil Levski monument. The building which hosts the museum was a five-grade boys school built in 1871 – one of the most representative buildings from the time of the Bulgarian Revival. The exhibition of the museum shows the archaeological heritage of the Karlovo valley, the variety of crafts that existed in Karlovo and the region, the traditional culture, the development of the education, and the participation of the town population in the liberation struggle. The exposition allows to trace the history of the Karlovo region from the prehistoric, antique and medieval times. A special showcase shows a model of one of the most preserved medieval Bulgarian fortresses - Anevo Kale. The architectural appearance of Karlovo since its establishment in the 15th century until the Bulgarian Revival is shown trough many photos and pictures - views of houses, streets, fountains, carved ceilings, frescoes, panes, wells, cobblestones, churches, mosques, inns, Clock Tower, squares. Special attention was paid to the donors from Karlovo region and especially to the greatest Bulgarian benefactors Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi.
